Here’s a tasty steamed chicken dish that we love to eat when we want to feel healthier, with a topping of spring onion oil (aka scallion oil) to give it that extra fragrance and flavour! The kids may choose to skip out on the ginger, but they will definitely love the savoury sauce and tender/flavourful chicken mixed into their rice!

Ginger Steamed Chicken

Here's a tasty steamed chicken dish with savoury sauce and tender-flavourful chicken, topped off with delicious scallion oil!

  • 750 g boneless chicken thighs
  • some ginger slices
  • 1 tbsp light soy
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp corn flour


  • 4 spring onions
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp seasoning
  • 3 tbsp hot cooking oil heated up
  • 1 tsp sesame oil


  • Marinate the chicken with light soy, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, pepper, corn flour and ginger slices. Mix well and leave it for 30 minutes for better absorption of flavours.
  • For the topping, dice the spring onions and add salt, seasoning, hot cooking oil to let it sizzle, and sesame oil, then mix well.
  • Place the marinated chicken on a plate and steam it for 30 minutes on high heat. Add the toppings and serve!

Any seasoning powder you like, such as chicken or anchovies. It’s usually available at the condiments shelf in supermarkets
